Disputation Against Fortunatus Translated by Richard Stothert Chapter 29 Augustine said: Concerning adoption I remember that I spoke some days ago according to the testimony of the apostle, who says that we have been called into the adoption of sons. This was not my reply, therefore, but the apostle’s, concerning which thing, that is, that adoption, we may inquire, if we please, in its own time; and concerning that I will reply without delay, when you shall have answered my objections. Fortunatus said: I say that there was a going forth of the soul against a contrary nature, which nature could not injure God.
